Visit of the Anuga 2023 fair in Cologne
From Saturday 7th till Wednesday 11th of October was the Anuga 2023 open for companies in the food related business. Not only food producers were exhibiting there but also foodpackers, laboratories, retailers and of course some logistic providers that are specialised in food handling and distributing. We visited the Anuga on Saturday.

Anuga 2023, 10 trade shows in one
As the Koelnmesse is a big building with 11 halls (some even double floored) and a congress centre, it was possible to make in fact in every hall a different show;
- Anuga Fine Food; Gourmet and delicatessen products and general provisions
- Anuga Frozen Food; Frozen food and ice cream products
- Anuga Meat; Meat, sausage, game and poultry
- Anuga Chilled & Fresh Food: Fresh convenience and delicatessen products, fish, fruit and vegetables
- Anuga Diary; Dairy Products
- Anuga Bread & Bakery; Bread, baked goods and spreads
- Anuga Hot Beverages; Hot Beverages
- Anuga Drinks: Drinks
- Anuga Organic: Organic food products
- Anuga Out of Home: Culinary, equipment and technology for the food service/catering market
As you can see every hall has his own “specialty”. The whole week on there are seminars, elections, talkshows, theme’s and new product introductions. The german press is therefore well presented with live reports on radio and television. In fact it is a pitty that consumers are not allowed on this fair, if people would know all the goodies available…
Anuga Organic
For us, the Anuga Fine Food, Anuga Bread & Bakery and Anuga Organic were the most interesting as we have no chilled of frozen storage capabilities. So we were looking for ambient food products. As we at Kolibri Logistics are specialised in organic food distribution the Anuga Organic in hall 5.1 had our most interest. In the weeks before the trade show we’ve contacted already some exhibitioners and we had a dozen or so appointments. Next to some new leads we also visited existing clients such as Sempio.

Big retailers, suppliers and producers were present on the Anuga 2023 and we made some very interesting contacts. The most heard problem for companies outside Europe is how they can get their goods through customs. It mostly starts with shipping containers from the country of production to an International DC in Europe. But after arrival at the port of Rotterdam the goods have to be cleared by customs. We can help with fiscal representative or even better raising an entity. It felt as it was a relief for this people we spoke to that we can solve their logistic problems. Although all the walking through the various halls were a kind of attack on our legs we had a lot of homework to come back with!
